It's just from the litter getting caught beneath and affecting the adhesive. On the L3, I've seen it recommended to cut a sandwich bag and tape it over this area to prevent pinch censor issues. It doesn't affect the machine at all. I bet you could do the same on the L4 after replacing this piece.
